Perched above Jonson Street just back from Main Beach, Loft is a bar and diner designed for Byron Bay’s breezy afternoons and balmy nights. Owner Matt Hunt opened the place in 2018, and its one-two punch of considered cocktails and share plates is still one of the strongest you’ll find in town.

Head chef Juan Hernandez (ex- Beach Byron Bay) oversees the menu, which is designed to share and champions local seafood and fresh produce. One-time highlights include Moreton Bay bug tacos with curry mayo; chargrilled Ballina prawns with XO butter sauce; and Coffin Bay vongole spaghetti with chilli, garlic, confit cherry tomato and bisque. If you’re splashing out, go for the oysters spiked with avruga caviar, raspberry vinegar, basil oil and lemon balm.

The matching cocktail list walks the line between contemporary and timeless, and includes signature house creations such as a punchy riff on a Martini with chilli, lychee and coconut. If you’re sticking to the classics, there’s a dedicated list to sip from: Pina Coladas, Mojitos, Negronis – you name it.

Across 10 beer taps, you’ll find locals like Fixation Brewing Co and Stone & Wood featured alongside brews from nearby Burleigh Heads and Ballina. Wines are picked from classic growing regions in Australia and abroad.

The space has been designed by local Ky Drury and is light, bright and welcoming. We love the seats right up against the balcony – which give you a prime vantage point for the bustling street below.
