Mr Badger's
Housed inside an old printshop in Woolloongabba’s Logan Road Precinct, Mr Badger is an all-day eatery and deli inspired by the old-world delis of New York.
Co-owners Dan Rodriguez and Adam Pykett (Electric Avenue, The Canvas Club) also wanted to celebrate a slice of Brisbane’s history. They named the venue after Joseph Stillman Badger – a New Yorker who moved to the city in the late 19th century and later helped develop its original tram system.
An original tram timetable hangs on the wall, along with conductor hats and vintage Brisbane tourism posters. Punters can even dine inside a life-sized mock-up of a tram on the deli floor. But it’s the other details – hanging strings of onions, chillies and garlic – that speak to the main attraction here. Not to mention the glass cabinet loaded with cold cuts.
For brunch, expect New York-style bagels, sandwiches built using local Banneton Bakery bread, and Black Sheep Roasters coffee. After dark, a straightforward share plate menu of lamb shoulder, T-bone steak and whole roasted chicken takes over. But the signature? Detroit-style pan pizzas. They come in multiple iterations, which may include margherita, barbeque chicken, pepperoni, meatlovers or meatball. Deli boards, various appetisers, charcuterie, cheese and tinned fish are available throughout the day.
On the drinks list is a well-priced selection of wine, tap and tinned beer, and bottled cocktails produced at Electric Avenue and The Canvas Club. It all amounts to a very daytime venue catering to families and maybe folks heading to a game at the Gabba.
