Brown Dog Cafe is man’s other best friend. Low-key, laid-back and as friendly as its name suggests, it’s a great spot for casual coffee catch-ups and lazy Saturday breakfasts.
When owner Christian Maltby opened the cafe back in 2006, it was a tiny espresso bar with a few stools and a coffee menu. Much has changed since then, but Maltby’s grown the business according to a “simple but good” ethos.
You’ll find functional wooden furniture inside and out, colourful pop art on the walls and fresh, filling food. Choose from light bites such as the Lazy Dog Roll (ham, egg, cheese and HP sauce) or fuel up with a Dog’s Breakfast (haloumi, avocado, lemon, spinach, tomato and toast).
Lunchtime classics include a Reuben Sandwich, Brown Dog Burger and Spinach Leaf Pie. Get your caffeine fix with robust Espresso di Manfredi coffee and loose leaf teas, or unwind with something stronger – the ‘Proper Drinks’ menu includes Scape Goat Pale Ale, Somersby Apple Cider and two house wines.
