Features
Some secrets are worth telling, and this Stanley Street hideaway is one of them. Visiting this charming bar and vintage boutique is like popping round to your ultra-hip gran’s – only with Australian craft beer and wine on the menu instead of tea and scones.
Can You Keep a Secret began as a vintage store in Greenslopes that occasionally hosted private parties. Owners Ajanta Willert and Emily Moss moved the business to Woolloongabba in 2014, turning a nineteenth century watchmaker’s shop into a retro-style bar complete with fireplace, piano and old TV.
Grab a drink, find a comfy seat in one of the cosy, knick-knack-filled rooms and settle in for some serious lounging (you can even bring your own takeaway food).
The fun doesn’t stop there. Can You Keep a Secret’s vintage boutique reopened beside the bar in 2015. Willert and Moss wanted it to feel like a walk-in wardrobe, and they’ve laden the racks with hand-picked, locally-sourced clothes and accessories from the 1950s onwards.
There’s also a well-curated collection of retro and kitsch homewares, so you can try recreating the bar’s yesteryear vibe at your own pad – or just head next door for another round.
