Features
Green Beacon is a welcome reprieve from rowdy inner-city mega pubs and clubs. Located in an open warehouse with exposed beams and polished concrete, its long wooden tables are ideal for group get togethers (but booking is recommended).
Green Beacon was opened in 2013 by schoolmates, Marc Christmas and Adrian Slaughter. After gaining an appreciation for the thriving craft beer cultures in the USA and UK, they wanted a brewery in Brisbane to call their own.
The brewery’s six-strong core range includes pale ale, kolsch, amber, porter, IPA and a hoppy American ale. Rotating seasonal beers and special releases join the line-up whenever head brewer Johann Van der Walt develops a new recipe. Drop by to see what’s in season, be it The Digger (an Anzac tribute lager) or Red’s Dead, an autumnal American ale with aromas of honeycomb and fig.
Order a plate of cheese to accompany your brew, or dig into a seafood platter of oysters, king prawns and Moreton Bay bugs. The pastrami Reuben sandwich is also worthwhile.
