Swop Clothing Exchange
On a trip abroad Brigid Gordon and Bethany Wicks noticed the emergence of "clothing swaps" as a way of buying and selling clothes. Like most overseas trips, epiphanies ensued and the idea for Swop was born.
Swop’s philosophy is to purchase and sell pre-loved apparel that marries contemporary curiosity with nostalgic sensibility. Swop buys from the public and sells to the public. Every Friday, the store opens its exchange whereby you can take any unwanted clothes (in good condition) and either swap them for a 50 per cent credit in store, or 25 per cent of the sale value in cash.
Ready to wear and men’s and women’s clothing are separated to the left and the right of the store along with racks of clothes, shelves of shoes and bins of scarves. Mannequins hanging from the walls are outfitted in stylish combinations.
The weekends are the best time to peruse, right after Friday’s fresh influx. You’re bound to pick up a vintage bargain or barely-worn garment someone else had second thoughts about.
