Sol Breads was founded in 1997 by a collection of bread-loving bakers in a small garage in West End. From humble beginnings, to a collection of four cafes (Toowong, Fortitude Valley and Darra are the others) and a lengthy stock list, Sol has stayed true to its roots. It still honours age-old artisan baking traditions, creating sourdough with the best organic ingredients.
The founding store in West End has become more than a bakery. It’s a busy cafe where West End’s creative crowd tap away at their laptops over a house made cold drip coffee or lounge around reading magazines over breakfast. The menu is simple and rustic while catering for everyone including coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians.
Breakfast includes honey, fresh ricotta and fruit on toast topped onto toasted sourdough; and sweet orange and date damper with salted organic butter. For lunch there are daily soup specials, organic shepherd’s pie and salad sandwiched between gluten-free bread.
Have a browse of the sweets cabinet before you head off which may include healthy raw chocolate chai cakes or rich banana muffins with oozing Nutella centres.
