Online shopping hit retail hard; Apartment has relocated twice since originally opening due to steep CBD rent prices. What they haven’t downsized on is the store’s service and attention to detail.
Apartment – or APTMNT to its mates – is laid out neatly and logically, with the racks separated by label. Menswear is the focus, though the shop also dabbles in accessories, cologne and incense burners – also used in store to create a calming vibe.
Although owners Nick and Ben Chiu (of Ben’s Burgers) have gradually moved away from their original theme of sneakers, they continue to stock what they consider to be staple brands for young, well-dressed men.
Due to their love of all things Japanese, labels such as Neighbourhood, Comme Des Garcons, Head Porter and Kenzo are common. Apartment is also one of the few stores to operate as an official shop-in-shop Carhartt retailer, offering a broad range from each season as soon as it’s available.
