The interior design of Urbane may be understated, but the procession of courses on offer are anything but.
With executive chef Alejandro Cancino at the helm, Urbane is a degustation-only restaurant offering sittings of five or eight courses (although it’s not uncommon for the chefs to throw in an extra course or two throughout the night). Cancino was born in Argentina and worked in some of the world’s finest kitchens, including Mugaritz in Spain and Bulgari Hotels in Tokyo, before settling in Australia.
At Urbane, Cancino delivers carefully crafted menus that honour seasonal produce and test patrons’ palates. Organic and local produce inform many of the courses, which are complemented by specialty ingredients such as Western Australian truffles. The fact that there’s always a five- and eight-course vegetarian alternative is a testament to the versatility of the chefs.
Pair each course with matched wines or select a bottle from the extensive 17-page wine list, which features drops from Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, USA, South Africa, Spain and Argentina, among others.
Cancino’s artful culinary expression is complemented throughout the restaurant’s interior, with its striking artwork, warm wooden tones and restrained design. Sibling establishments The Laneway and The Euro rub shoulders with Urbane, offering a spot for a pre- or post-dinner drink.
