The Boatshed is The Regatta’s sophisticated cousin. Its soundproofed windows offer dazzling views across Coronation Drive towards the river, while dark wood, leather and a peaked timber ceiling give the restaurant an air of prestige.

Meals too are a cut above average pub fare. There’s no disputing the house specialty: upon entering, diners come face to face with a glass ageing cabinet hung with slabs of premium beef. Executive Chef Daniel Fleming prepares 14 cuts of steak in total, five of which are dry-aged for 40 days for a sweet, intense flavour.

Popular choices include Darling Downs ribeye and Barkley Tableland steak on slate. Then comes the pageantry of the open grill. Spanning two meters across the restaurant’s rear, flames reach skyward whenever a fillet is tossed on the griddle. In true gastropub style, steaks are finished with Cafe de Paris butter, or pepper and whisky sauce, accompanied by either chips or a baked spud on the side.

For non-beef eaters, there’s a selection of other proteins, including saltimbocca chicken and duck pappardelle, with a handful of vegetarian dishes scattered across all three courses.

Unsurprisingly, The Boatshed’s extensive wine collection features reds heavily. Noteworthy drops include Barossa Valley and Margaret River pinots available by the glass, and more than a few varietals of vintage Penfolds.
