"Sugo" means "sauce" in Italian, but the sauce is just the beginning at this Bulimba institution. Its pizzas are the stuff of legend, with classic and less conventional toppings (confit duck and caramelised apple; roast pumpkin and aged balsamic) on soft, pillowy bases.
Owner Tanya Colonna is passionate about Italian cuisine, particularly the pizzas in her father’s hometown of Termoli. When she opened the business in 2007, she wanted to bring a taste of Italy to the people of Brisbane – and they’ve been responding with gusto ever since.
The staff work as hard as the electric pizza oven, serving the steady flow of patrons with diligence and warmth. Sugo IT's no-booking policy and lively al fresco setup make it ideal for casual catch-ups or relaxed family meals over traditional Italian pastas, mains and kid-friendly options.
The bar offers wine from Australia, New Zealand and Italy; Lazy Yak and Peroni beers on tap; and Italian-inspired cocktails such as the Limoncello martini.
Nip down the alleyway beside the restaurant to find Sugo IT’s Groceria and Gelateria, which sells pizza bases and some of the creamiest gelati in town.
