Before Revel Brewing’s gastropub moved in, the Commonwealth Acetate of Lime Factory was home to a naval base, a migrant hostel and, most recently, the Hans Continental Smallgoods factory.
But despite the 1917-built heritage digs, Rivermakers Restaurant shares plenty of DNA with its modern Bulimba sibling. Much of the seating here is communal – outside are enormous umbrella-shaded picnic tables, and inside are steel-framed share tables hedged by planter boxes. The internal dining room has left the old facility’s brick and timber beams exposed and unadorned.
Refined pub food with a focus on local, sustainable produce complements the beer-centric drinks offering. Think polenta fries, cauliflower wings and and antipasto platters to start. Pub classics – such as grass-fed Black Angus sirloin and chicken parmigiana – join a selection of upmarket burgers.
To drink, there are 20 taps pouring Revel’s core styles alongside a busy program of limited and seasonal releases – all brewed less than ten minutes away. The alternative? An extensive list of wines from around the country.
