French dining doesn’t have to feel formal or intimidating, and that’s exactly the point of Pompette, the Tassis Group restaurant bringing classic French cuisine to The Star Brisbane. The menu is unmistakably French, but with an added dash of Australia’s casual, shareable dining culture.
Head chef Jean-Luc Morcellet delivers classic dishes like escargots doused in garlic butter, roast duck breast with orange jus, steak au poivre with a peppercorn cream sauce and, of course, a sweet, milky crème brûlée. The winner, though, is the burger royale: Wagyu, foie gras and blue cheese sauce pressed between bouncy brioche. There are also shucked-to-order oysters with the option of champagne mignonette or blood orange granita. If you’re just there for drinks, perch at the marble bar and browse Pompette’s extensive list of champagne.
The 140-seater sits on the terrace of The Star Brisbane alongside Tassis Group’s Dark Shepherd, and boasts panoramic views of the river and parklands. Dine inside among pops of pink and brushed brass finishes, or opt for the cool, leafy courtyard. For private dining, you can hire an exclusive room.
