Bitter Suite may be New Farm’s local craft-beer bar, but there’s more to this place than just an extensive drinks list. A cafe, bar and restaurant, Bitter Suite puts equal thought into its food and liquid offerings.

You’ll find it on a quiet corner of New Farm, in one of the heritage brick buildings the area is known for. Inside, its character has been preserved. Outside, visitors and their canine companions bask in dappled sunlight. Dog-friendly cafes are one thing, but dog-friendly bars? Here, you needn’t choose between pooch and pint.

The kitchen offers lunch, dinner and weekend breakfast. Bitter Suite is known for its hoisin duck pancakes, but they’re hardly indicative of the broader menu. The chefs take inspiration from all around the world. Options range from bar snacks to share plates, generous mains and nightly vegan specials.

As you’d expect from a craft-beer joint, the drinks list doesn’t miss a beat. Five of the seven taps are on rotation, and the focus is on Australian brews, although exceptions are made for top-notch overseas drops. More than 40 bottles of beer and cider take up most of the fridge space, leaving just enough room for the succinct selection of wines.
