Features
Down an alley and behind a laundromat is one of Paddington’s best-kept secrets.
Ra Ra Superstar is not only a locally made, sustainable fashion label, it’s a treasure trove as well. Vintage clothes line the entrance and handmade goodies from other local designers can be found hidden on the shelves.
Owner Kathy Szwedzinski started the brand while she was running a vintage store at Bondi, inspired by retro designs and textiles. When she moved to Queensland she sold Ra Ra at the Valley Markets, before opening the shop in 2009.
Since then, it’s grown into a fun and quirky brand, with an emphasis on bright colours and bold prints. Shift dresses, floral headbands and pom pom-anything make up the aesthetic. The range is festive and tend towards casual and comfortable.
Ra Ra fashion shoots often include local models and are done in the studio behind the store. Szwedzinski and her staff also do free alterations on pieces bought in store and take custom orders.
