The Triffid
Considering its musical pedigree, it’s no surprise The Triffid is a standout venue. Owned by John Collins, former Powderfinger bassist and stalwart of the Australian music scene, the converted World War II aircraft hangar is enjoying a second life as one of Brisbane’s coolest-looking hangouts. Host to all kinds of international, national and local music acts (including plenty of Brisbane bands), The Triffid has taken flight since its launch in late 2014.
After touring with Powderfinger for years, Collins knew exactly what the space needed to offer to bands, fans and thirsty patrons. Hence, The Triffid’s state-of-the-art acoustics, the result of punching thousands of holes in the roof to install sound insulation.
Despite this, Collins wanted to keep the character of this iconic Newstead building and give apartment-dwelling locals a communal backyard. If you’re not in the mood for tunes, enjoy casual drinking and dining in the sunny courtyard or the Feedback Cafe.
Grab a burger or hot dog and choose from a range of craft beers (including Mountain Goat, Two Birds and Sierra Nevada), cocktails or Australian and New Zealand wines, all served from re-purposed shipping containers.
