During the week the aroma of hops and toasted barley emanate from Newstead Brewing Co, and you’re likely to find business partner Mark Howes working on the latest brew with his team. The easy-drinking beers reflect the warm climate, with names inspired by the local environment.
If you drink four pints of the same beer and go home, you’ve probably missed the point of the place. The bar staff is well-versed in both the six house beers and the six non-Newstead slots that round out the bar’s 12 taps. A list of wine and spirits will satisfy the non-beer-drinker.
The kitchen keeps it practical, dealing in fries, wings and hearty meals. It’s a menu that’s constantly evolving, balancing favourites with a touch of nuance.
The space is an industrial mix of polished steel from the brewery’s large holding tanks. Exposed brick and untreated wood add warmth and nostalgia. Long tables promote sharing and the high ceilings echo the fanfare below.
