Born 30 years ago in the Sydney garage of founder and creative director Shelley Simpson, ceramic homewares brand Mud has opened its first Queensland store.
The James Street outlet is the much-loved brand’s 12th store. Mud has come a long way since 2007, when it opened its first store in Woollahra in the heart of Sydney’s well-heeled Eastern Suburbs. In the time since, the brand has expanded across New South Wales and opened stores in Melbourne, as well as in New York, London and Los Angeles.
In the high-energy urban retail precinct of James Street, Mud is nestled among the world-renowned Calile Hotel, cacti-filled eatery The Green and relaxed, fashion-forward retail stores such as Elka Collective.
The Fortitude Valley location stocks Mud’s full collection of handmade, minimalistic porcelain pieces. The homewares are designed to last and come in a range of 19 different colours. The store also offers the brand’s new porcelain lamp collection, a godsend for anyone who hates harsh overhead lighting.
The store was designed by Melbourne-based architecture and interior-design practice Design Office. Natural light fills the space and sleek open shelving accentuates the versatile, sustainable and highly considered pieces that have helped make Mud a household name in the homewares space.
