Big Bad Wolff Espresso Bar is more like the reception area for Peter and Penny Wolff’s coffee empire, which also includes Queen of Pops.

Behind the bar, a giant Little Red Riding Hood-inspired artwork looks down on baristas working with a rotating selection of blends, single origin and decaf beans. Custom fire-engine-red Mazzer grinders and a matching Kees van der Westen Spirit espresso machine take pride of place.

Two taps near the till pour nitro cold-brew coffee and tea from kegs. Along the right-hand side of the space, you’ll find a freezer of double ristretto coffee popsicles and a retail range of tamps, grinders, beans and filters.

What Big Bad Wolff lacks in food, it makes up for with knowledge. The staff is always ready to answer coffee questions, and the curious can book in for a free cupping session or longer specialised course.

The large white warehouse is also home to a Queen of Pops production kitchen; the Wolff College of Coffee; and Wolff Coffee Roasters’ large-scale roasting and distribution business.
