Queen Elizabeth II is Australia’s official head of state. That has very little bearing on how we live our lives day-to-day, with a couple of exceptions. The most noteworthy? The Queen’s Birthday public holiday. The Queen’s actual birthday is in April, but because of how many public holidays there are around then, most Commonwealth states officially celebrate her birthday on a different date that’s better suited to a day off.

This year, the Queen's Birthday public holiday falls on Monday, October 4. Here are all of the restaurants, bars and cafes staying open to help you make the most of the holiday .

Covid-19-related restrictions are back in place in Queensland. The restrictions, which will remain for two weeks, apply to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Logan, Townsville and Palm Island and take those areas from stage three back to stage two restrictions.

Restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs will return to a capacity of one person per four square metres (and one person per two square metres outdoors) and patrons at these venues must be seated when eating and drinking.

For further information on the new restrictions, see the state government's updated Covid-19 information page here.
