Usually held over nine days in August, the Ekka – or the Royal Queensland Show, if you want to be formal – attracts around 400,000 visitors each year, making it the largest annual event in the state.

This year, the event kicks off on Saturday, August 12, and many of us will get a state-certified day of rest on the following Wednesday.

Whether you need a coffee, a beer or a meal, these hard-working cafes, bars and restaurants are staying open on Wednesday, August 16.
