This beautifully conceived cafe on Park Terrace is a testament to the power of good branding. Owners Kiara Naidoo and George de Bhal have left the bones of the space (previously Park 7, an American-style diner) largely intact – including the floors, banquette seating and a long line of bi-fold windows. But with the help of local interior design firm We Are Mercury they’ve managed to completely transform its look and feel with an understated colour scheme of cream, turquoise and grey, fresh furniture, enormous al fresco picnic tables and a long breakfast bar facing the street.
In the kitchen, the menu that elevates your standard Australian brunch with flashes of chef Dan Choi’s Korean heritage. There’s spicy grilled pork served with free-range eggs and a potato rosti; a pork belly salad of Asian slaw, pine nuts and truffle mayo; and a 20-spice fried chicken burger served with shoestring fries. A specials menu is updated daily, and has recently featured okonomiyaki pancakes and grilled beef bulgogi stacks.
The food is helped down by a Five Senses blend and rotating single origin for espresso coffee, alongside a daily filter brew. Elsewhere, there are smoothies, Hrvst St juices and Heirloom hot chocolate.
