Between 1995 and 2004, Grant Lew travelled the world working in top-tier kitchens, all the while mastering the art of making ice cream.

When he came back to Brisbane, he and sister Carina Lew began wholesaling their customised ice cream to the city’s restaurants, including Urbane and Gerard’s Bistro. Their strawberry ice cream also made regular appearances at the Ekka, in the famous strawberry sundae.

Opening a retail ice creamery was the natural next step. Lick! has become an after-school hangout and post-dinner pit stop for Graceville locals. With tables and chairs spilling onto the street, you can take your sweet time or grab a cone and go.

Along with selling crowd favourites such as salted nut, popcorn honey and Redskin by the scoop, the duo also dishes up desserts.

The classic banana split is pimped up with condensed-milk ice cream and a generous pour of salted caramel. The “Lickamisu” lives up to the promise of its name, being made up of mascarpone cream soaked in Toby’s Estate espresso, coffee-and-hazelnut ice cream and a dusting of cocoa.
