Features
A dark streak of romanticism dwells within the concept store of local designer Gail Sorronda.
Inspired by this overarching theme, as well as ideas of contrast and duality, Sorronda’s collections are known for monochromatic designs and feminine silhouettes. Sprays of colour occasionally appear amongst the racks, but these are rare deviations from her proclivity for black and white.
Sorronda uses her monochrome signature as point of reference to explore the harmony and balance of opposites. And it is this intelligent approach that has caught the eye of industry heavyweights including Karl Lagerfeld – who flagged her as one to watch – and Dolce & Gabbana.
Sorronda includes handpicked pieces and accessories from other labels alongside her own, including 2 by Lyn and Tony, Jenny Kee, Romance Was Born and Arielle de Pinto (who isn’t stocked elsewhere in Australia), focussing on items that feel like an extension of her own work. On occasion, she also engages in collaborations with the other designers she stocks.
