The Standard Market Company first opened in 2002, as one of the inaugural tenants of the ambitious James Street Market. Since then it’s exploded in popularity, and now includes locations in Southport and Newstead.
The Fortitude Valley original – which has grown so large it’s been split into dedicated sections for fruit and veg, meat, bread and deli items, plus a bottle shop – is still where it’s at. The deli is particularly worthwhile, with a thoughtful selection of local and international goods – including cheese, olives, cured meats and oils – paralleled only by the likes of New Farm Deli.
Staff are warm and knowledgeable and more than happy to provide suggestions. Perhaps most importantly, there’s ample opportunity to taste-test.
