On the last Sunday of every month, Warisan offers all-you-can-eat satay for $45 per person. The menu includes satay beef, chicken, fish balls and marinated tofu. For an additional $49 per person you can add on bottomless drinks. Live music from Indonesian musician Sartika scores the whole day. Bookings are essential.

Alfan Musthafa (grew up in West Java, where he learned to cook from his grandmother. At Warisan, he brings the flavours of regional Indonesia to Fortitude Valley.

The menu features small plates like crispy chicken skins with sambal asam and otak-otak (steamed and grilled fish cakes wrapped in banana leaves).

Among the large plates are standout regional specialties: ayam bakar taliwang (a Lombok-style grilled half chicken marinated in red chilli paste), babi guling (Bali’s famous slow-cooked pork belly) and beef satay with sweet soy chilli sambal. And the Warisan signature: bebek goreng, twice-cooked crispy duck flavoured with yellow curry paste.

Taking over the Ze Pickle site, the space retains much of its original grungy, garage-style charm with concrete tables and distressed walls. There are also arcade games and a back entrance decorated with Indonesian posters from Musthafa’s childhood.
