Food kiosks have come a long way from those at the local swimming pool. Case in point: Pineapple Express Superfood Box, a small kiosk on James Street awash with colour, clean eats and summery vibes.

It’s the little sibling to the Portside Wharf cafe, owned by five mates who developed their menu in conjunction with a nutritionist. The kiosk may have a more concise offering than the Portside location, but the menu still packs a punch.

Geared towards takeaway food that’ll leave you feeling nourished, it specialises in sweets that are good for you. Think vegan CocoWhip soft serve topped with peanut butter and clean fudge sauce, or a healthy salted-caramel shake made with banana, coconut ice cream, raw caramel sauce, honey and almond milk.

Gluten-free, dairy-free and refined-sugar-free desserts such as banana bread and protein balls are from Paris Strauss of My Plate Clean Treats. Most are raw (which means they’re baked below 42 degrees) and play on the proven flavour combinations of classic chocolates such as Snickers, Cherry Ripe and Mint Slice.

But this place isn’t just for those with a sweet tooth. The cabinet is also replenished daily with bagels, wraps and salads, which pair perfectly with the selection of smoothies. And because this is a superfood bar, the acai bowl hasn’t been neglected either.
