Prohibition
At Prohibition there’s a gangster in the men’s room and a white stone wolf at the bottom of the staircase. The ceiling undulates slowly enough to make you wonder if one too many Du Pont daiquiris are responsible.
While the ceiling moves of its own accord, the daiquiri scenario is highly likely, given this ‘20s style speakeasy stocks more than 250 types of liquor in the central bar alone.
Harking straight back to the time of Gatsby, the staff members are kitted in flapper gear, pinstripes and spats. In one bar they spin tunes on a turntable disguised as a gramophone. In the other, they deliver teacups of gin around a romping live swing band.
In true Prohibition style, there are secret rooms and hidden doors, including the very hush-hush Wall Street bar, with swipe-card-only access for VIPs.
The leather-bound hooch menus list shots, splashes, mixers and muddles of every possible combination. A large number are top-shelf or hard-to-find. There are enough cocktails to keep you drinking all night without repeating anything.
On Fridays and Saturdays an in-house makeup artist and hairdresser drop by to help you look the part.
