Thai cafe So What Stereo was open for just six months before co-owners Kawid “Meek” Brikshavana and Ratinan “Ploy” Rattanathai decided to start opening after dark, under a different brand. While So What Stereo’s name references a famous Miles Davis track, Kasem Sook Social’s moniker is more personal. Kasem Sook means “super happy” and it’s also Brikshavana’s dad’s name.

Instead of entering through the front door as usual, guests arrive via the back entrance, next to Pattie Crepe. This enables Brikshavana to turn his music station – which mixes vinyl and digital sources – in the front corner into a dedicated listening space.

The menu leans into contemporary takes on Thai flavours. There are tacos built on corn tortillas with a whole betel leaf and larb (choose from beef, duck or barramundi), alongside bread rolls stuffed with massaman pulled beef or hung lay pulled pork. So What Stereo regulars like beef boat noodles and chicken khao soi are also available.

There are several wines available by the glass and others by the bottle.
