The week kicks off with a pizza-and-cocktail special at Corbett & Claude’s city restaurant, and a masterclass at Public. At the masterclass, you’ll learn how to make your own bitters, tinctures and syrups – the building blocks of a professional cocktail – so you can mix some top-notch drinks at home.
Johnnie Walker Whisky Ambassador and ex¬-MasterChef contestant Sean Baxter is hosting a fine-whisky tasting at The Gresham. Over at Maker, World Class ambassador and ex-MasterChef contestant Jamie Fleming is co-hosting a five-course food and cocktail degustation dinner with Maker’s World Class bartender, Ed Quatermass. Cobbler is also hosting a five-course food and cocktail degustation dinner with whisky-based cocktails.
Another degustation is happening on Wednesday night. London Fields is heating things up with four courses of warming winter dishes and hot cocktails (such as Mulled Cider and Hot Toddies) to match.
Stop by Jimmy Rod’s Shave Saloon for a haircut or shave and an Old Fashioned before arriving at a secret location for a four-course Asian food and cocktail degustation.
Start the evening sweetly at Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar, where you’ll eat cakes and doughnuts and learn how to mix four of its signature cocktails. Then, pop by Madame Wu’s for a Martini any way you like it, before choosing between masterclasses at Pony and The Fox Hotel. The former will teach you to make five of its signature cocktails, while the latter will focus on cocktails made with white spirits.
There are two high teas on Saturday – one at Cuvee Lounge at the Sofitel Brisbane, with a focus on Martinis, and the other at Darling & Co. which will serve Tanqueray gin–based iced teas instead of cups of hot tea. On Sunday, wrap up the week with a pizza and cocktail at Corbett & Claude Indooroopilly, or squeeze in one last masterclass at Dutch Courage Officers’ Mess.
A number of drink specials are available over the week, too. Canvas is offering its most popular cocktail, the Penny’s Big Bang, for the special price of $15. Vintaged Bar + Grill is offering a different cocktail, inspired by a different country, for each day of World Class Cocktail Week. If you’re a Gold Coast local, or find yourself over that way, Mamasan Broadbeach and Stingray Surfers Paradise both have drink specials, too.
