What’s better than having ice cream delivered? Having ice cream delivered in order to help raise funds for a significant cause. That the flavours on the menu have been developed by some of the country’s best-known chefs only sweetens the deal.
That’s the score this coming Friday when, between 11am and 5pm, Uber users will be able to open the ride-sharing app, set a location and request an ‘ICE CREAM’ option. If the request is successful (there's only a finite amount of ice cream available at any one time, although stocks will be replenished throughout the day) $15 will be charged to the rider’s account and a half-litre tub of ice cream delivered “within minutes,” according to Uber. Each tub ordered will help perishable food rescue organisation OzHarvest provide five meals to Australians in need.
Uber will be delivering the ice cream in three varieties. George Calombaris of Masterchef and Press Club fame has designed a caramel and walnut baklava smash flavour; Aria’s Matt Moran has contributed a banoffee crunch ice cream; while Rockpool’s Neil Perry is peddling a spiced cookie and caramel swirl number.
Although users won’t be able to choose a specific flavour using the app, drivers will carry a limited number of all three ice creams on each delivery run.
