The XXXX brewery has been a feature of Milton since 1878. More recently the area’s beer credentials got a shake up with the opening of The Scratch Bar in 2012, and Aether Brewing in December last year. We’ll be able to add Newstead Brewing Co to the mix when the team opens its second brewery early next month.
“I’d like to think that Milton itself is evolving in such a way that we can all complement each other,” says Newstead Brewing Co’s brand ambassador, Darren Magin.
The Milton brewery will be much larger than the original Doggett Street site, with a significantly bigger brewing capacity and enough space for a pub section, a packaging area and a 100-patron function room.
The pub will front the venue and offer 12 beers across 24 taps. The car park out the front will be licensed, allowing the site to hold much larger numbers than the original venue. The packaging area will continue to produce bottles for wholesale, as well as cans come mid-year.
Located right across the road from Suncorp Stadium, Newstead 2.0 will be the perfect place for a pre-game drink. “We’re hopefully going to attract patrons on game days,” Magin says. “So we have a great excuse to educate some new people about good craft beer.”
Executive chef Peter Swatton is re-joining the team, after a brief hiatus heading up the kitchen at Pearl Cafe. The food will be similar to the Doggett Street site; pub fare with a slightly more upmarket slant.
Newstead Brewing Co Milton will open at 67 Castlemaine Street in March 2017.
