The city’s newest old pub is back with a fresh lick of paint and a new name. The Fitzgibbon family has returned the 157-year old pub (once known as Fringe Bar) to an updated version of its former glory.
The pub has 92 beer taps scattered across three bars The outdoor feature here is a an old carpark section-slash-breezy-deck, with leaves, fairy lights and wooden nooks to sit in. More than 30 beer taps protrude from a feature wall of curved copper behind the bar. A giant, clear roof should keep the bar dry from summer storms, while plenty of seating and a great pub menu furthers the sensation of the Osbourne being an oasis in the city.
An excellent beer garden attached to an excellent music venue (owned by music legend and former Powderfinger bassist John Collins). What more could we ask for here in Brisbane?
A discount. If you’ve got tickets to a gig in the converted World War Two hangar that is The Triffid, flash them for a discount on food. While burgers and beers before bands is the ideal, a live show needn’t be the reason to visit – The Triffid’s beer garden is open to all. Find a cosy spot to sip a pot of Little Creatures beneath the giant cassette tape mural.
This old-farmhouse-turned-Queenslander on the main street of Nundah is the casual dive-bar every neighbourhood needs. On the second storey you’ll find locals nestled in vintage cane chairs overlooking the street, enjoying jaffles and paddles of craft beer.
On Wednesdays the bar plays classic flicks on the Astroturfed deck with happy hour and free popcorn. One owner is vegan and one is not, making for a simple menu that keeps both parties satisfied. The beer range is extensive and heroes many small Australian craft beer producers, including Red Hill, Kaiju, Moondog and Prancing Pony.
Down by the river, sunshine-yellow-and-white striped umbrellas, fairylights and hanging plants mark the place of this CBD classic. Admittedly Riverbar gives off summer vibes 12 months of the year, but it’s in the warmest months the city really embraces its breezy ocean theme.
Kick on into the evening by splitting jugs of James Squire Fifty Lashes while soaking in Story Bridge views and a buzzing, if laid-back atmosphere.
The unexpected is what makes the bar and food offering at this Fish Lane venue so great. Every Thursday and Friday night the food incubation hub has three pop-up food businesses selling plates that give you change from a $20.
The food stalls rotate at this outdoor space, meaning there’s always a new vendor popping up (though old favourites do return), and the communal bar rotates interesting craft beers.
