Botanica is finally opening a second store.

For months Alison and Brett Hutley have been fielding requests about expanding their gourmet takeaway operation. “It’s people talking about not having options for lunch or not having variety for lunch,” Alison Hutley says. “Or that after 2pm there’s nothing available in certain areas … the demand is definitely there.”

Botanica has become a favourite among Red Hill locals and inner-suburban interlopers since opening on Enoggera Terrace in January 2013. It’s prized for the high quality (and reasonable prices) of its takeaway salads, gluten-free cakes and breakfast options.

A second outlet has always been on the cards for the Hutleys. “[But] we only wanted to do it if neither store would lose any quality and it would be seamless,” Alison says.

The only trick is they’re not going to tell you where it is. Not yet, anyway. “We had a location in mind from the moment we decided to expand,” Alison says, “and we’ve been successful in securing that shopfront … We’re opening at the beginning of May, and around the middle of April we’ll be revealing the secret. We want to avoid [creating too much] anticipation.”

The new location will be very much in the Botanica style. “We pride ourselves on the boutique feel of our Enoggera Terrace shop,” Alison says. It will also remain 100 per cent takeaway, but have a much larger kitchen, allowing the business to expand its catering operations.

“That’s a great opportunity,” Ally says. “Our current kitchen is tiny and the shop is so busy, we’ve been limited in that regard.”
