During World Class Cocktail Week, bars and restaurants across the city are getting into this spirit by offering a variety of masterclasses. You’ll get to drink cocktails, but more importantly, you’ll learn how to make them so you can re-create them at home.
Bitters, tinctures and syrups at Public Bar
A sure-fire way to up your home-mixing game is learning how to make your own bitters (alcohol flavoured with botanicals), tinctures (alcoholic plant extract) and syrups (a thick, sweet flavoured liquid) – the building blocks of a professional cocktail. You’ll find out the tricks to all of these, including how to make and use them, and be given some small bottles of each to take home. You’ll also receive a Tanqueray No. TEN gin–based cocktail on arrival.
Behind the scenes at Alquimia
Alquimia Cocktail Tequila Bar is holding nothing back at this cocktail-mixing masterclass. Learn all there is to know about mixing cocktails, including how to infuse spirits. You’ll also get the opportunity to jump behind the bar and mix a couple of your own, which you can drink while enjoying a few share plates.
Cakes and cocktails at Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar
This is one for the sweet tooths. Learn how to make four of Cowch Dessert Cocktail Bar’s favourite cocktails, including the Espresso Vanilla Martini with Ketel One vodka; the Pink Margarita with Don Julio Blanco tequila; the Berry Vanilla Spritz with Ketel One vodka; and the Pash N Peach, then choose which one you want to mix yourself. You’ll be fed plates of churros, dessert pizzas and cakes all evening.
Double masterclass at The Fox Hotel
The Fox Hotel is offering two masterclasses in one. The first session will focus specifically on tequila, during which you’ll make and taste two cocktails. The second session will focus on the other white spirits, such as Ketel One vodka and Tanqueray No. TEN gin. Both sessions will include plates of canapés.
Learn, drink and eat at Pony
Pony will teach you to make five of its signature cocktails during this World Class Cocktail Week masterclass. The cocktails include the Suzie, made with Ketel One vodka, elderflower, grapefruit, lemon and agave; the Rum-Soaked Nights, made with Pampero Anejo rum, butter and cinnamon; and the Pumpkin Perk-Up, made with Ketel One vodka and spiced pumpkin. You’ll also get to drink your favourite while sampling some of Pony’s share plates.
Martini masterclass: One better than Bond at Dutch Courage Officers’ Mess
You won’t just learn how to make the perfect classic Martini at this masterclass. You’ll also learn all about wet, dry, Churchill, Montgomery and Vesper styles, the difference between stirring and shaking, how to garnish properly, and how to pair different Martinis with food.
