After seven years, the group is changing things up with a new food and drinks menu inspired by the punchy street food of Mexico and Thailand. It all kicks off this Friday.

The Anyday Group has made a name for itself for constantly moving forward and evolving without a whiff of laurel-sitting.

This Friday – May 1 – Los, the green-hued cocktail bar above Thai joint Same Same, will undergo a major shift. The loosely Thai-inspired menu will pivot to one of Mexican and Thai fusion. It’ll be the team’s fourth new development in nine months following the opening of its first CBD venues: The French Exit, Golden Avenue and Le Royale.

“We have always imagined Los as a Mexican fiesta in the back of a tuktuk. A space that feels energetic, a little unexpected and full of personality,” said co-founder Tyron Simon in a statement. “The back bar, with its deep collection of tequila and mezcal, has always pointed us in that direction, while the connection to Same Same below brings in a strong Thai influence. Now, the relationship between the two venues feels intentional.”

Both cuisines are known for street food and dishes with depth, complexity, acid and heat.

The new menu was designed by head chef Arté Assavakavinvong under the guidance of culinary director Ben Williamson.

Assavakavinvong took a lot of inspiration from Sonora and Chihuahua and northern Mexican regional cuisine – as well as from his travels.

“The pork jowl taco was inspired by a recent trip to London, I tried an amazing pork belly taco at a little Mexican cantina… and immediately thought how it could be elevated by incorporating a Thai favourite: pork jowl. It pairs perfectly with another dish from the menu, the corn ribs finished with nahm jim butter,” said Assavakavinvong.

The cocktail program follows suit by highlighting acidity, heat and herbaceous aromatics.

Guests will be encouraged to dive deep into agave. Los has a 360-bottle collection, which the Anyday team says makes it “one of Australia’s strongest agave collections”.

One of the new cocktails includes mole, which was created for the bar’s beef barbacoa taco. In the Holy Mole cocktail, it’s paired with agave, hibiscus and chocolate for a deep and umami-rich drink.

The music program will also be reinvigorated. The program will be grounded in Latin music culture but include nods to the LA and European club scenes.

Los’s Mexican-Thai menu will be available from Friday May 1. Los is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
