The United States celebrates National Cheese Day on June 4 and at least one Brisbane restaurant is getting in on the action.
On the day from 12pm onwards, King Street’s Il Verde will flip free four-cheese pasta to the first 200 people through the door (and also out the door – the offer is takeaway only).
The restaurant’s signature dish is a more refined take on what you’re probably seeing at every night market right now: a rich, cheese-wheel concoction of linguine and melted grana padano, with hints of taleggio in the cream sauce, montasio and aged provolone.

SUBSCRIBE NOWIf you can’t make lunch, the restaurant is running a dinner special on the same day: a four-cheese pasta entrée followed by what it’s touting as Brisbane’s first aligot – cheese blended with mashed potatoes, creating a fondue-like consistency – poured over Il Verde’s house-made sausage. The $55 menu is finished with a glass of wine and some cannoli for dessert.
The restaurant recommends booking ahead for dinner. We recommend getting there at 12pm if you want some free pasta.
