If you’ve spent any time at all in Melbourne, you’ll be familiar with the city’s beloved burger joint, Huxtaburger. Built on the tagline: “hot beef, cold beer”, the chain kicked off in 2011 and now has six outlets across Melbourne.
Soon, you’ll no longer have to travel 1600 kilometres to get your hands on this prized meat, bread and cheese – CEO Matt Fickling confirmed to Broadsheet that Huxtaburger will expand to Brisbane next year.
“We cannot wait to come to Queensland, the sooner the better for us. We’d love to do it next year, we’re going to push really hard,” Fickling says.
“The Brisbane market is awesome and you have the weather and the lifestyle to smash a burger and then go and have a good time in the afternoon,” he says. “So I think our product and the way it tastes and the way if feels really suits Brisbane.”
He says the Brisbane market perfectly aligns with what the brand strives for: dishing up good food while connecting with local communities.
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we always want to stay true to who we are,” Fickling says. “As much as our product is awesome it’s really becoming much more than that.
“As a brand, at the moment we’re focusing in on those hyper-local elements. So when we open in Brisbane the way we design our stores will really be about bringing the outside in and connecting with the local community ... If we open in Brisbane’s CBD that will be a much different store to what we’d open on the Gold Coast.”
In the meantime, burger aficionados can get their fix of Huxtaburger’s tried and true offerings at Melbourne After Dark when it takes over Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall next week.
Hosted by Visit Victoria as a part of its Twist at Every Turn campaign, the free pop-up event begins at 6pm and kicks on until midnight on November 29. The intention is to bring a taste of the southern city’s best food, drink and live music to Brisbane.
Music for the night will be provided by Melbourne-based artists Remi, Saskwatch and The Delta Riggs.
Melbourne After Dark is a free event but you must register to attend. See here for more details.
