If you’re over the age of 25 you probably remember the Alibi Room’s $2 taco nights. Every Tuesday, far too early in the week, far too many people would pack into the tiny New Farm bar and go large on cheap grub and Coronas. It was a glorious work-wrecking nightmare.

The Coop Bistro remembers, and so is launching Bueno Bueno, a $3 taco night that begins next Thursday January 18.

If the $1 of inflation sticks in your craw, just remember that in 2017 you’re likely getting a superior product. Seven different tacos are on offer, including the Demonio Blanco (24-hour pulled cola pork with beans, pickled red cabbage and chipotle mayo); the Generalisimo (barbeque pulled beef with caramelised onion, pickles and parmesan cheese); the Gallo Fantástico (a variation on The Coop’s signature karaage chicken burger with diced pickled onions, blue cheese and chipotle barbeque sauce); and the Rapido Picante (beans, red and green peppers, red onion, corn, smokey ketchup and avocado crema).

All are served on your choice of soft flour or corn tortillas, an accompanying drinks list heavy on Dos Equis stubbies, sangria, margaritas and tequila.

Bueno Bueno will run every Thursday night 5pm to 10pm.
