Expect 10 taps of Range beers, an Italian-influenced menu and a large, sun-drenched courtyard. (It’s not called Patio for nothing).

Range Brewing ’s Matt McIver and Gerard Martin have been busy. The duo recently relaunched the kitchen inside their enormously popular Newstead taproom as Jacopo’s Pizza, and they are adding an events space, called The Bethnal, next door. Now, they are working on a new venue in Rosalie called Patio.

“[Patio] has been in the back of our minds for the past [few] years,” McIver tells Broadsheet. “We’ve always dreamt of having a big outdoor space where people can relax, [drink] our beers and enjoy the Queensland weather.”

McIver and Martin are aiming to bring this sort of experience to Baroona Road in late May. But don’t expect Patio to have the same feel as their taprooms in Newstead or Melbourne.

“It will have a very different feel to the full beer experience at our taprooms,” McIver says. “[Patio will be] more of a relaxed, neighbourhood craft beer and wine venue … your home away from home.”

The team has taken over the space that previously housed Moga Izakaya & Sushi. The venue features a sizable sun-drenched al fresco courtyard that overlooks the Rosalie Village, while the patio area seats around 70. Another 30-odd can be catered for inside the building.

“[The interior] is inspired by a lot of pubs in England, Sydney and Melbourne, with a lot of dark timbers,” Martin says. “The outside will have more of an Australiana feel – think outdoor deck chairs – with an Italian twist.”

There will be 10 taps of Range beers, plus another two dedicated to house wines made by Latta Vino. As for the food, they’ll have the full Jacopo’s Pizza menu with a few key additions, including a chicken parmigiana. There’s also talk of a sandwich menu for lunchtime diners.

Patio will open at 146 Baroona Road, Rosalie in late May.
