Over the past 13 years, Grant Lew and his sister, Carina, have been supplying some of Brisbane’s best restaurants (85 Miskin Street, Cha Cha Char, Jellyfish) and delis with their customised ice-creams. Their strawberry ice-cream also features at the Ekka, in the iconic strawberry sundae.

That wholesale success led to their own “modern-day ice creamery”, which opened in Graceville in 2015. Now they are ready to open a second shop in Morningside.

“We’ve been at Graceville for two years and it [has] been an absolute dream run,” Grant says. “It was pretty much a no-brainer to do a second store.”

The new shop is scheduled to open on Wynnum Road in early November. The Lews have hired the same builders they used for the Graceville shop to fit-out the new space, which features an outdoor deck. The plan is to replicate the same feel and concept on the other side of town.

“We get a lot of visitors from all over Brisbane that come to Graceville,” Grant says. “Because Graceville is in the west, we wanted to launch something in the east.”

The menu will remain the same, so expect flavours like salted nut, popcorn honey and Redskin, as well as desserts such as their take on a tiramisu, called the “Lickamisu”. Lew says home delivery may be on the cards too.

Lick! Ice Cream will open in Shop 5/591 Wynnum Road, Morningside in early November.
