After opening its 150-seat cafe and roastery in a Newstead warehouse last year, Melbourne coffee giant Industry Beans is launching its second Brisbane site.
Industry Beans Adelaide St. will open in November with its signature coffee offering and a range of pastries and other treats, all geared towards takeaway for busy city workers. There’ll also be a retail section stocked with beans, coffee equipment, and cans of cold brew.
“We always wanted to find a home in the city – we have cafes in the CBD in Melbourne and Sydney, and it’s a great fit for our style of coffee service – fast, consistent and above all, welcoming,” says Trevor Simmons, who co-founded the roastery with brother Steve Simmons in Fitzroy in 2013. They’ve since expanded with a second Melbourne venue, a cafe in Sydney and now two Brisbane locations.
“When we found this site, we knew it was just right, and although we had to hit pause on the project over the past six months, we’re excited to get going now.”
The shop will be open seven days a week, making it one of the few specialty coffee places open weekends in the city. “We all need to play our part in helping our cities come back stronger than ever – for us, that starts with opening seven days a week to ensure there’s always a great coffee on hand,” says Simmons.
Beans will be roasted at Newstead, starting with the Newstead Blend and Seasonal Blend for milk-based espresso coffees, and a range of rotating single origins for both espresso and filter. The brand’s signature cold brew drinks will be front and centre, including its Bubble Coffee, which brings together cold brew coffee, coffee-soaked tapioca pearls and house-made condensed milk (available as oat mylk), and the Fitzroy Iced, a smooth mix of cold brew, Wattleseed, organic panela and milk of choice.
The new opening will mark just over a year since Industry Beans launched in Brisbane. “We haven’t looked back,” says Simmons. “When we opened Newstead, we had such an incredible reaction to the way we do things, and we knew that there was so much more we wanted to share with the Brisbane coffee and cafe communities.”
Award-winning Melbourne architects March Studio (Aesop, Jackalope Pavilion) and fit-out specialists Unita (Munich Brauhaus, Betty's Burgers) are behind the interiors, which will feature a large white coffee bar, seating for up to 10 customers, and detailed panelling around the walls and ceiling.
Industry Beans will open at Shop 6, 243 Edward Street (enter via Adelaide Street) in November.
