Coming Soon: Fritzenberger to Open New Outpost in Wilston

Fritzenberger opened in September 2016 on Petrie Terrace and has been successfully slamming burgers, frites and beer to a city and sports crowd ever since.
Now, it’s taking on the suburbs, opening in Wilston mid-September. The new space is owned by Andrew Jefferies, Matthew Bailey and Steve Minon, but on the ground will be led by executive chef Matthew Fosker, head brewer Matthew Glanville and manager Kirsty Bennett.
Glanville says it’s not about changing things up for the new location, but introducing a winning formula to a new audience. “It has worked well and we’re confident in it,” Glanville says. “We hope that by bringing it to a local community in more of a suburban setting that we’re going to offer it to a bunch of new people who haven’t experienced it at Petrie Terrace.”
As a mark of Wilston’s growing sophistication, the new Fritzenberger is moving into an old Coffee Club on the corner of Kedron Brook Road and Fifth Avenue. Fosker says the site was chosen because of locals’ affiliation with the space but also because there was the opportunity to give it a fresh start.
Alfresco seating for up to 70 will welcome crowds for afternoon drinks, with another 30 seats inside. As is its reputation, Fosker says the service will remain efficient but hospitable.
The menu includes the signature Fritzenberger (Australian grass-fed beef, Spanish onion, house-made ketchup) and popular pork burger (slow-cooked house-made pork, slaw and coriander). It’s all made to order, with local produce the priority.
Drinks are of course prominent on the menu – beers are brewed by Glanville at Petrie Terrace, with eight on tap at Wilston plus occasional guest brews. Glanville says the ethos with the beers is to keep them approachable.
“We try and keep the beer list simple – the pale ale is a pale ale,” he says. “The lager is a lager. As a customer you should be able to know exactly what everything is.”
Fritzenberger Wilston will open September 15 at 4/99 Kedron Brook Road.
