Given its enormous popularity in Red Hill and Teneriffe, it’s perhaps odd that Botanica is only now crossing the river to take on Brisbane’s south side. On July 6, the gourmet takeaway store will finally open a third outlet at Camp Hill Marketplace.

Still, husband-and-wife owners Brett and Ali Hutley have never been into empire building. “We’re not about rushing into opening store after store. This is a very considered, small family business,” Ali says. “We genuinely want to offer [our customers] something special.”

Since opening in Red Hill six years ago (and Teneriffe in 2016), Botanica has become a favourite for its well-priced takeaway plant-based salads, gluten-free baked goods and breakfast options. Camp Hill won't be dishing up breakfast but will otherwise have the same menu of 17 rotating salads alongside gluten-free cakes and savoury tarts.

The fit-out will be exactly the same also – “it works for the fact we have such a simple model with our salads and cakes”, Ali says – although the store won’t be quite as big as the Teneriffe outlet, which will use its sizeable kitchen to service the smaller outlet.

Botanica is the third of a popular batch of James Street, Newstead and Teneriffe operators that have recently opened south-side outlets at Camp Hill Marketplace, after Jocelyn’s Provisions and Nodo.

Botanica will be open at Camp Hill Marketplace on July 6.
