Beloved NSW Chicken Shop Chargrill Charlie’s To Open Its First Queensland Outpost

When Sydneysiders don’t know what to get for dinner, there’s one answer: Chargrill Charlie’s.

The chargrilled chicken joint sells roast chicken, of course, but it also sells salads, roast vegetables, side dishes (including a killer cauliflower cheese dish) and two-handed treats like burgers and rolls.

The chicken chain has 22 Sydney outposts and three Melbourne locations and has announced three Queensland stores are on their way. The first store opens in New Farm this Saturday, with West End and Bulimba stores to follow in 2026.

The New Farm store will be opened by franchisees Avalon McRae and her partner, Brisbane Broncos player Jack Gosiewski. It’s a natural fit – the couple had their first date at Charlie’s when Gosiewski was playing for a Sydney team.

“It’s still our favourite meal to eat together whenever we are back in Sydney,” said Gosiewski in a statement.

“I’m beyond excited to have the opportunity to bring the best brand in NSW to Queensland,” said McRae in the same statement. “Jack and I just couldn’t survive another day without Chargrill Charlie’s.”

The store opens to the public on Saturday June 28. A few weeks later on July 19, the couple will celebrate the store’s opening by offering 300 schnitzel rolls for free.
