The Canvas Club’s Dan Gregory picked up the Bartender of the Year award at last night’s 2017 Australian Bar Awards.

Gregory was fresh off winning the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge in Sydney over the weekend, and came third place for Bartender of the Year at last year’s event, when he worked at The Gresham.

It was a big year for Brisbane all round. West End’s Cobbler won two awards, picking up Queensland Bar of the Year and Ella Rhodes getting the nod for the Rookie Bartender of the Year.

Seymour’s Cocktails & Oysters, Jamie Webb’s Caxton Street bolthole, also did well, winning Queensland Cocktail Bar of the Year as well as the national prize for Best Bar Food. Webb picked up a third gong with Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall being named the Live Music Bar of the Year. The Gresham won the Bar Team of the Year award.

Australian Bartender Magazine’s Bar Awards are the industry’s most respected independent awards of their kind. Finalists were chosen after a round of public voting, but the overall winners were chosen by their fellow finalists.
