Feel like a second-class citizen because you prefer your friends with four legs not two? Well, not this weekend.

Tomorrow, for one day only, West Elm’s Brisbane store is hosting its first ever Pup Party. It’s a simple arrangement. You bring the canine. West Elm brings doggie-related goods, treats and homewares, as well as a clutch of on-the-spot prizes.

A bunch of local artisans specialising in dog-related wares will be there, including Bones Society, Fergus and the Cat, Gail Ceramics, Knobbly and Sweet Chops. And if you’re crazy enough to head to West Elm tomorrow and don’t have a pooch, well, the Animal Welfare League Qld will be attending to show you some dogs up for adoption.

There will also be a photo booth in-store so you can share a snap with your best bud named Bailey, and guests go into the running to win a $250 West Elm gift card, a custom pet-portrait by artist Carmen Hui and a $50 Barking Obito gift card (the first 50 dogs through the doors receive a Barking Obito treat, by the way).

That many dogs in one furniture store could either be glorious or calamitous. But who cares? Fun.

The West Elm Pup Party takes over its Fortitude Valley store on Wandoo Street on Saturday May 28 from 11am to 3pm.
