The Market Folk: Gasworks Markets
The Market Folk evolved from Brisbane’s much-loved Metre Market, where stallholders would get a metre of rack space to showcase their second-hand clothes.
The newly named market is hosting its biggest event of the year at Gasworks Newstead – just in time for Christmas. Gasworks Plaza (and the heritage-listed gasometer) will be teeming with artists, makers and designers – at more than 75 market stalls – over four days.
You’ll be able to trawl through a thoughtfully curated selection of bespoke jewellery and fashion, luxe homewares from Home Dweller and ceramics from Paxxy & Flora, plants and pots, beauty products, and candles by The Love Cleanse.
The market is dog-friendly, so naturally there’ll be a handful of stalls where you can spoil your furry friend. Think dog clothing, accessories from Barker & Fetch, treats and more.
Looking to update your wardrobe? The pre-loved clothing sale will be on December 14 and 15. Go on a shopping spree, minus the consumer guilt – buying second-hand helps save energy, water and non-renewable resources that are used to make bulk new goods.
There’ll also be workshops where you can make and decorate a customised plate, or craft two pairs of statement acrylic earrings – one for you, one for a gift. Book your spot here. Plus, there’ll be live indie pop and acoustic folk by local duo Hayley + Laura.
