Dinner with Tony Tan at Supernormal Brisbane
Forty years after he first made it big – opening Tatler’s Cafe in Sydney in 1983 and hosting SBS’s The Food Lovers’ Guide to Australia in the ’90s – Tony Tan is having a major moment.
His latest cookbook Tony Tan’s Asian Cooking Class, features more than 150 of his favourite personal recipes which touch on key tenants of Malay, Peranakan, and Indian-Tamil cooking.
To celebrate the launch of the cookbook, Supernormal chef Jason Barratt and his team will present a four-course set menu of recipes taken from Tan’s book. Guests who book the one-off dinner on Thursday November 21 will enjoy seafood starters including oysters, grilled scallops with curried sweetcorn sauce and calamari with green maho salad. Larger starters include a Rajasthani watermelon curry and Thai duck curry dumplings. There’s a showstopping whole Penang Nyonya fish curry with spiced tamarind sauce served with char siu cauliflower as a main and rhubarb cardamom and rosewater sorbet, boozy watermelon and sago for dessert.
Tan himself will be there to answer questions from the crowd and sign copies of his cookbook.
