Halloween has come of age in Australia. Once an obscure holiday reserved for trick-or-treating American kids, October 31 now provides a welcome outlet for grown-ups to carve a pumpkin, splatter some blood and maybe go for a zombie walk.

This year the main event falls on a Monday, so there will be spooktacular soirees all weekend. Here’s a guide for where to have a bloody good time this Halloween.

Halloween Horror Synth Party
The Ploughman Bar in Alderley is throwing its first Halloween party. The bar will project horror classics on the wall and play an ’80s-horror-synth soundtrack (hello Stranger Things). A selection of beers will be on tap, including BrewCult’s Blood Sucking Geeks Red IPA and Doctor’s Orders Brewing’s seasonal Fleshwound Steinbier. Turn up in your best outfit to be in the running for a free schooner.

If dressing up as a fortune teller, cheerleader or lycanthrope isn’t your thing, you can try the party within a party – the neon disco in Greaser’s Analogue Gallery room.
